The Australian Industry Group proposes the following strategy that is consistent with the Manufacturing and Associated Industries and Occupations Award 2020 and The Implementation Guide:
Stage 1: 1½ - 2 hour briefing session to provide key personnel with an overview of the implementation of competency standards. This stage would be conducted with stage 2.
Stage 2: Identify all tasks and skills required in the selected areas (e.g. mechanical, electrical, non-trade). This would be done with the assistance of key personnel. The skills identified would be matched to the National Engineering Competency Standards. Typically, this stage and stage 1 should take 1-2 days.
Stage 3: The competencies identified in stage 2 would be developed into skills profiles and self-assessment tools. Typically, this stage should take 1 day and is conducted off site.
Stage 4: Facilitation of the self-assessment and the validation of the results. The purpose of the self-assessment and the validation is to determine the competencies held and used by employees in an industrial context.
Each employee would complete the appropriate pro forma self-assessment tool in a small group situation. Following this, the facilitator would work with key personnel to review and validate the tool and allocate a classification level as per the Manufacturing and Associated Industries and Occupations Award 2020.
Typically, this stage should take 1-2 days (dependent on the number and availability of employees).
Competency standards/classification work is charged at: $465.00 p/h (exclusive of GST) for members of the Australian Industry Group.
Additional costs include travel time, economy flights, taxi/hire car and accommodation costs, meals and disbursements if required. All travel is at: $233.00 p/h (excl. GST) member. Travel time is usually capped at 2½ hours per day.
