A hazard refers to anything that has the potential to cause harm.
Physical and psychosocial hazards in the workplace include noise, chemicals, machinery, manual handling, high job demands, poor workplace relationships, poor organisational change management, remote or isolated work, amongst others.
It is important to remember that psychosocial hazards may interact or combine to create new or higher risks. When managing psychosocial risks, employers should consider all the psychosocial hazards employees may be exposed to. A risk assessment may help identify these hazards, as well as looking at other organisational data available, e.g. surveys, exit interviews, incident reports, etc.
